Celebrate the cool weather with a warm salad made of sautéed curly kale, sweet roasted beets and crunchy red quinoa. One cup of kale offers almost as much calcium as a cup of cottage cheese.  A great way to boost your calcium intake from a plant-based source.  Also, kale is rich in cancer protective isothiocyanates and the carotenoids lutein and beta-carotene.

Almond Fig Bars

Make these energy-boosting fig bars that offers calcium and fiber.  Naturally sweet figs and unsweetened applesauce are a great alternative to processed sugar.

Chocolate Chai

Instead of wine and champagne this holiday season, enjoy this dessert beverage. Chocolate is often a favorite, but this recipe combines cinnamon, ginger and cloves with rich cocoa for a warm spiced end to a delicious meal. Research shows that the antioxidants in tea and chocolate may improve blood vessel function and lower blood pressure. Remember though, that chocolate is a high calorie food, so moderate consumption is important for overall health.
